First Cast: Your OKF Welcome Guide

Your first event starts here.

You don’t need a perfect setup to start learning. Use this guide to prepare, then follow the current official event rules for all requirements.

  1. Pick your event. Read the schedule, registration instructions, boundaries, launch times, and submission deadlines.
  2. Read the rules. Confirm eligible species, measuring equipment, photo requirements, identifiers, safety equipment, and permitted launches. Event rules take priority over this general guide.
  3. Practice before tournament day. Learn the scoring app, photograph a fish on your measuring board, and review how to submit a catch. Do not assume a saved photo has been submitted.
  4. Prepare your equipment. Check your PFD, required safety gear, phone charge, measuring board, identifier, and weather plan.
  5. Plan your day. Confirm lawful access, event boundaries, weather conditions, and all deadlines. Give yourself time to return and submit catches.
  6. Ask questions early. Contact the director before the event if a rule or boundary is unclear.
